Speech: From Smart Sensing to Smart Living: The Role of AI and Data Science (See More)

Biography: Dr. Sajal K. Das, whose academic genealogy includes Thomas Alva Edison, is a professor of Computer Science and Daniel St. Clair Endowed Chair at Missouri University of Science and Technology, where he was the Chair of Computer Science Department during 2013-2017. Prior to 2013, he was a University Distinguished Scholar Professor of Computer Science and Engineering, and founding director of the Center for Research in Wireless Mobility and Networking (CReWMaN) at the University of Texas at Arlington. During 2008-2011, he served the US National Science Foundation (NSF) as a Program Director in the Computer and Network Systems Division. Dr. Das’ interdisciplinary research interests include cyber-physical systems, IoT, cybersecurity, data science, machine learning, wireless sensor networks, mobile and pervasive computing, smart environments, parallel/cloud computing, social and biological networks, applied graph theory and game theory. He contributed significantly to these areas and published extensively (375+ papers in high quality journals, 500+ papers in peer-reviewed conferences, and 57 book chapters). He coauthored four books – Smart Environments: Technology, Protocols, and Applications (John Wiley, 2005); Handbook on Securing Cyber-Physical Critical Infrastructure: Foundations and Challenges (Morgan Kaufman, 2012); Mobile Agents in Distributed Computing and Networking (Wiley, 2012); and Principles of Cyber-Physical Systems: An Interdisciplinary Approach (Cambridge University Press, 2020). A holder of 5 US patents, he directed funded projects over $22 million. His h-index is 95 with more than 36,600 citations according to Google Scholar. Dr. Das is the founding Editor-in-Chief of Elsevier’s Pervasive and Mobile Computing journal (since 2005) and serves as Associate Editor of several journals including the IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing, IEEE Transactions on Dependable and Secure Computing, ACM Transactions on Sensor Networks, and Journal of Parallel and Distributed Computing. A founder of IEEE PerCom, WoWMoM, SMARTCOMP and ACM ICDCN conferences, he has served as General and Program Chair of reputed conferences. He is a recipient of 12 Best Paper Awards in prestigious conferences (e.g., ACM MobiCom and IEEE PerCom); and numerous awards for teaching, mentoring and research including IEEE Computer Society’s Technical Achievement award for pioneering contributions to sensor networks and mobile computing, and the University of Missouri System President’s Award for Sustained Career Excellence. Dr. Das has mentored 11 postdoctoral fellows, 48 PhD students, and 31 MS thesis students. He is a Distinguished alumnus of the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, and an IEEE Fellow.

Speech: Understanding the Role of Energy Supply in Modern Computing and Communication Systems (See More)

Biography: Jiangchuan Liu is a Full Professor (with University Professorship) in the School of Computing Science, Simon Fraser University, British Columbia, Canada. He is a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, an IEEE Fellow, and an NSERC E.W.R. Steacie Memorial Fellow. He was an EMC-Endowed Visiting Chair Professor of Tsinghua University (2013-2016). In the past he worked as an Assistant Professor at The Chinese University of Hong Kong and as a research fellow at Microsoft Research Asia. He received the BEng degree (cum laude) from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, in 1999, and the PhD degree from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 2003, both in computer science. He is a co-recipient of the inaugural Test of Time Paper Award of IEEE INFOCOM (2015), ACM SIGMM TOMCCAP Nicolas D. Georganas Best Paper Award (2013), and ACM Multimedia Best Paper Award (2012). His research interests include multimedia systems and networks, cloud and edge computing, social networking, online gaming, and Internet of things/RFID/backscatter. He has served on the editorial boards of IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking, IEEE Transactions on Network Sciences and Engineering, IEEE Transactions on Big Data, IEEE Transactions on Multimedia, IEEE Communications Surveys and Tutorials, and IEEE Internet of Things Journal. He is a Steering Committee member of IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing and Steering Committee Chair of IEEE/ACM IWQoS (2015-2017). He was TPC Co-Chair of IEEE INFOCOM'2021.


Prof. Lijun Wang

Speech: Ai based Super Resolution technology for Virtual Reality and Panoramic Video (See More)

Biography: Dr. Wang received his Ph.D degree from Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications. He spent three years as postdoctoral fellow at Northwestern University, USA. After then, he had served as a senior research scientist in the R&D laboratory of Corning Incorporated, a Fortune 500 company in US for many years. Dr. Wang is a accomplished scholar in the fields of ultra-high-speed fiber optic network, nonlinear optics and optoelectronic technologies. He has published more than 50 papers on top academic journals and received more than 20 patents. Dr. Wang is now a national special expert and consultant expert of Beijing municipal government. He is also the Chairman of AR/VR Technical Committee, International Information Display Society (SID). He is the Foreign Academician of Russian Academy of Engineering. His main research interests include Next Generation Display, Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR/AR) as well as Quantum Computing and Communication Technology.

Biography: Dr Jixin Ma is a Full Professor in the School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences, at the University of Greenwich, U.K. He is the Director of the Centre for Computer and Computational Science, and the Director of School’s PhD/MPhil Programme. Dr Ma is also a Guest/Visiting Professor of Beijing Normal University, Auhui University, Zhengzhou Light Industrial University and Hainan University, China. Professor Ma obtained his BSc and MSc of Mathematics in 1982 and 1988, respectively, and PhD of Computer Sciences in 1994. His main research areas include Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering and Information Systems, with special interests in Temporal Logic, Temporal Databases, Reasoning about Action and Change, Case-Based Reasoning, Pattern Recognition, Graph Matching and Information Security. He has been a member of British Computer Society, American Association of Artificial Intelligence, ICIS/IEEE, and Special Group of Artificial Intelligence of BCS. Professor Ma has been the Editor of several international journals and international conference proceedings, and Program Chair/Invited Keynote Speakers of many international conferences. He has published more than 150 research papers in international journals and conferences.
